On Confines of Life, the third studio album from California punk band Neighborhood Brats, the band dives head-first into songs about environmental crisis, systemic oppression, interpersonal/intrapersonal conflict, and the trappings of modern existence. Following blueprints of ‘77 punk, ‘80s hardcore and elements of post-punk, the diverse songwriting influences of vocalist Jenny Angelillo and guitarist George Rager are showcased throughout, putting the band in their element, while expanding on their original concept.

Recorded in February and March 2020 at Station House studio with Grammy Award-winning producer/engineer Mark Rains, the band had barely finished production when Los Angeles went into its initial shutdown in response to the incoming pandemic. Multiple 2020 tours were subsequently canceled as the music industry, and life in general, came to a standstill.

As live music faces challenges unlike any other in modern existence, the band looks forward to a time when they can safely return to the road. With Nick Aguilar (drums) and Mike West (bass), Neighborhood Brats stands at-the-ready. As their song goes... “We’ll Find You.”

NEIGHBORHOOD BRATS return with their second full length record, and let’s just start by saying it’s a scorcher. The band plays a brand of punk that, had they existed in 1977, would have been right at home on Dangerhouse Records alongside The Bags and The Avengers. That said, “Claw Marks” might just be the first Neighborhood Brats records that truly captures the urgency and energy of the band’s chaotic live show. The record finds the band at the top of their game in terms of songwriting, musicianship, and lyricism. So much so that lead singer Jenny Angelillo says that there are several songs on the album that could easily be her epitaph.

“Claw Marks” is an upbeat but beaten down soundtrack to the dystopian nightmare we find ourselves living in. When the band sings “It’s time to check out/We’re being left out” it sounds like a mantra for our time, while the album closes with Jenny singing “Dance with me/Bones, blood, And teeth/Dance with me/Into the Void” over a reverb drenched guitar line provided by the band’s other core member, George Rager, that sounds like it was lifted out of some post-apocalyptic western. It’s all so fucking perfect.

LP by THE OBSERVERS

The Observers are one of those punk bands that existed only in a short window of time, but left us with a game changing album. Their critically acclaimed record “So What’s Left Now” was released twenty years ago and turned a lot of heads in the underground punk and hardcore world.

Deemed “Album of the Year” by reviewers at Maximum Rocknroll, Razorcake and other magazines, these ten songs changed the conversation and ushered in a new direction for the DIY scene. Their sound harkened back to the early days of American and British punk, while also offering something new.

Douglas Burns and Colin Sanders formed the band in 2002. Shortly thereafter, Ian Kashani and Mike Warm joined the group. Over the next few years they toured constantly, playing mostly small clubs, basements and squats. Sadly, they called it a day in 2005 just as the band was gaining in popularity. Members of The Observers went on to play in Red Dons and Defect Defect.

PISS TEST formed in Portland, Oregon a few years ago when drummer Rodrigo Diaz was mandated to urinate in a plastic jar in order to secure steady work. He brought up his forming a punk band idea to former Red Don, Zach Brooks. They decided to forgo looking for a bass player, and teach Zach’s better-half Samantha Gladu to play. Rodrigo and Zach figured the last thing the world needs is another punk band with three aging dudes. After all, the couple-plus-a-drummer lineup worked for Dead Moon. And like Toody before her, Samantha quickly became the driving force of the band, making it her mission to encourage women to start bands and telling the creeps to fuck off. But what’s with the Dead Moon references? PISS TEST don’t sound like Dead Moon! None of them even own a leather vest. You, discerning German music fan, would like specific references? Think about the angrier side of early Texas or SoCal punk, with a dose of the Great Pacific Northwest (where bands can’t help but sound a little bit like The Wipers). PISS TEST have also had several comparisons to Proletariat, which they weren’t really going for, but don’t complain about.

THIS IS A PRE-ORDER! RECORD RELEASE DATE IS NOVEMBER 1!

Their seminal second album is back in print on random color vinyl! Remastered and with updated artwork! Originally released in 2010.

"The second LP of one of my current fave bands - now thats a great start for a bad monday. Forget the Observers this is Red Dons - Listen to it with fresh new ears and stop harkening back to the past. Less dramatic and herky-jerk than their last lp and more to-the-point, driving a stomping beat thats cloaked in darkness whilst soaking up danse gloom of the Pacific Northwest . Take the epic heaviness of From Ashes Rise , dilute it to a more punk rock formula, throw in the density of the Wipers and add some early - 80s LA hardcore melody, and thats the winning concoction of the Red Dons. The first LP is great, this is amazing, less complicated, more rock with a straightforward approach that doesnt come off as simple, a scandinavian feel shines through the more I listen, with a hint of early UK82 riot city type punk rock. This might be my record of the year." (SD) - MAXIMUM ROCK'N'ROLL

Orange Vinyl!

Five years after their seminal “Fake Meets Failure” LP, Red Dons return with their junior album “The Dead Hand of Tradition”.

A lot has happened in those five years.

Two of the band’s core members Douglas Burns and Hajji Husayn left their hometown Portland, Oregon behind, for Chicago and London. They recorded and released a slew of singles on labels like Grave Mistake and Dirtnap (including a collaboration with TV Smith of UK punk legends The Adverts). Despite the distance between them, they’ve managed to tour regularly in North America and Europe.

In January this year they reconvened in Portland to record “The Dead Hand of Tradition” at Buzz Or Howl Studios, the same establishment where they recorded the album’s predecessor. “The Dead Hand of Tradition” features ten new tracks of their signature dark, driving, melodic punk rock sound. The formula of their distinctive songwriting hasn’t changed, but has matured as a result of having five more nomadic years under their belts. These new experiences have only added to the themes of alienation, emigration, and loss present in... more

Portland again! The melodic WIPERS-influenced Punkrock-sound from this city seems to have a new climax at the moment with cool records by RED DONS, ESTRANGED and AUTISTIC YOUTH, just to name a few. And you can also add DEFECT DEFECT to those hi- quality bands! I named the main references before, if you need more hints just listen to Germany’s finest IDLE HANDS and imagine them with a more powerful Punk-scratch. Am I wrong if I suggest that DEFECT DEFECT listened to some old MISFITS-records, too?! I hear a lot of “Oh OhOh’s” in the lyrics, it’s very catchy, very “sing -along”... The record runs on 45 rpm, comes with a lyric-sheet and has 8 fine songs on it. Nice package! (Bernd) - CRKO

Standing on the precipice of a damaged world circling the drain, Edmonton Punks NO PROBLEM are set to figuratively "kill 'em all" with the release of LET GOD SORT EM OUT, their ambitious third studio album out on TAKEN BY SURPRISE RECORDS.
NO PROBLEM welcomes listeners into a frightening world filled with heavy riffs and nervous, gloomy and frustrated sounds.
A mainstay in Edmonton’s underground punk community, NO PROBLEM formed in 2010, blending the mutant sounds of early Canadian punk with the classic primitive stomp of American hardcore. Drenched in atmosphere the band has created the ultimate soundtrack to society’s impending doom. Their notorious high energy show has toured over twenty countries across three continents, sharing the stage with bands like Career Suicide, Fucked UP, DOA, Night Birds, Red Dons, The Regulations and many more.
With three studio albums and over four 7”s under their belt, NO PROBLEM are one of Canada’s top DIY exports.

Red Dons return with their 10th vinyl release and their first new music since the 2015 LP, "The Dead Hand of Tradition". From numerous tours to past collaborations with venerated punks like TV SMITH (THE ADVERTS) and JESSE MICHAELS (OPERATION IVY), Red Dons have proven that a band can continue to accomplish a great deal despite growing life obligations and members scattered across the globe. Now in their 11th year as a band, Red Dons have established a formula of dark, driving punk rock with catchy melodic hooks. These new songs deliver on that tradition. Genocide nods to early-Southern California punk (e.g., Dangerhouse Records, Agent Orange) with its downstroked mid-tempo rhythm, layers of subtly distorted guitars, and anthemic chorus; however, as Red Dons have done in the past, they are able to evoke the reference without aping the style. Letters is slightly slower with the bass driving the bouncing music under Doug’s signature vocal melodies. If you are familiar with Red Dons, then the quality of the songwriting on this release will continue to fulfill expectations. If you are just now discovering the band, then you will be both pleasantly surprised and baffled that such an amazing band has escaped your attention before now.

Fronted by JUSTIN MAURER of the CLOROX GIRLS and featuring CHRIS BRIEF of ehm THE BRIEFS on drums, SMAIL from THE SHOCKS on bass and SULLI from RIPCHORD on guitar, they deliver great poppy punkgems with a hint of 60s beat. This 7" is the follow up to their great 17 TELEVISION EP on DERANGED RECORDS. MAN EATER on the A-Side is one hell of powerpoppy anthem and on the B-Side the band blasts through MODERN LOVERS' SHE CRACKED.

Portland, Oregon’s powerpop sensation returns with their second album to date and for those of you who thought that they can’t top their stellar debut, I’m sorry to disappoint you but on DANGEROUS GAME they are taking things to a whole new level. Ten new tracks of 100% pure pop drawing influence from all decades of Rock’N'Roll.

“A breathless collection full of high energy songs colored by a punk vocal aesthetic and good old-fashioned rock ‘n’ pop chops. The hooks are strong throughout; the backing vocals are top-notch; the album flows like fine wine with a kick. I predict big things for this album. Anyone with even a passing interest in high-energy pop ‘n’ roll is going to go crazy for your latest effort!” -Alan Haber / Pure Pop Radio

LP by THE CRY!

THE CRY! is a music sensation emerging from the eclectic arts scene of Portland, OR. With heavy power-pop influences like THE BEACH BOYS, EXPLODING HEARTS and THE SWEET, the band has re-crafted the 2 minute pop song for a new generation. THE CRY! effortlessly merges 50′s style vocal harmonies and the jangle of 60′s pop hooks with the raw punkish emotion of the PDX street culture from which they come.

Skinny ties, plastic sunglasses, matching bleach-blond dye jobs, bad haircuts and a record collection centred on The Adverts, Buzzcocks, The Undertones and The Weirdos. Yes folks The Briefs are back with a brand new album! Platinum Rats is the band's fifth LP and the first since 2005's Steal Yer Heart. That's not to say they've not been busy - Singer guitarist Steve E. Nix and bassist Steve Kicks have released three albums in the last decade by their other band The Cute Lepers. Where The Cute Lepers records feature some added power-pop drive, The Briefs are closer in spirit to pure '77 punk - loud, raucous and fierce, yet cohesive, hooky and hilarious.
They have so much energy, it’s hard to believe they’re from Seattle, the city that put lattes and flannel on the map. The Briefs still make Seattle their home, but they’ve come a long way since their debut record, and they’re still cranking out hits. One of the hardest working bands in America. They’ll play any time, anywhere!
The band formed in 2000 and originally consisted of Daniel J. Travanti (guitar/vocals), Steve E. Nix (guitar/vocals), Lance Romance (bass/vocals) and Chris Brief (drums/vocals). They released their first full-length album, Hit After Hit, in 2000 on Dirtnap Records. The band was courted by and reportedly signed with major label Interscope Records, following their 2002 release of Off the Charts, but that deal later fell through.
The Briefs re-surfaced on California's BYO Records with the release of 2004's Sex Objects and the reissue of their Dirtnap-era LPs. In 2004, the Briefs went on a European tour without Lance Romance, who stayed behind to get his GED. In his place went bassist Steve Kicks of Vancouver, British Columbia's band, New Town Animals. Lance re-joined the line-up for the 2004 release party of Sex Objects, but retired from the band in 2005. Kicks since become a permanent addition and was a full member for the follow-up, 2005's Steal Yer Heart.
For more info on The Briefs check out The Greatest Story Ever Told, a movie about the band made in 2007. It’s available on DVD with a bonus disc including rare live recordings of some of the bands’ most popular hits. That's the history but fans both old and new should check out Platinum Rats, 12 tracks of pure punk rock pandemonium, it will not disappoint!

This new split 7" brings you two of Portland's finest punk combos at their peak. P.R.O.B.L.E.M.S. follow up their great MAKE IT THROUGH THE NIGHT LP (Doomtown Sounds / Static Age) with two new smashers of hard rocking punk with a hint of Fast Eddie / Philthy Animal Taylor era Motörhead thrown in the mix. CHEMICALS return with their fuzzed out garage mutant rock, rough and rowdy as usual, two bitchin' neckbreakers right there.

ENDLESS COLUMN started in 2010 when Doug Burns (OBSERVERS, RED DONS) moved to Chicago and started the band together with Jimmy Hollywood (TYRADES), David Wolf (DAYLIGHT ROBBERY) and Eric Watts. They deliver rocking lo-fi garagerock with surfy undertones. These four songs are taken from their demo, recorded and mixed entirely on a Tascam 246 in the summer of 2011, and mastered by Daniel Husayn at North London Bomb Factory. The band went on a hiatus after Burns moved away for school and is now back together playing shows again.

RECORD RELEASES MAY 28!

At long last, the debut LP from NY/NJ's own NIGHT BIRDS is finally upon us! Following three well received 7" EPs, "The Other Side of Darkness" takes you on on a non-stop demented thrill ride with thirteen raging blasts of high-octane surf-inspired punk that the band has become known for. NIGHT BIRDS have pulled out all of the stops on this long player; honing their hardcore/punk/surf/garage hybrid sound to near perfection, delivering each and every song with urgent and unmistakable precision. With underlying themes of isolation, paranoia, depression, visions of total annihilation, and more horror/b-movie nods and references than you can count, "The Other Side of Darkness" is the ultimate soundtrack to that post-apocalyptic nightmare that you just can't seem to wake up from.

"CHEMICALS are punks on drugs, whose hot-wired Trashpunkjunk can be associated with O.C. Beachsounds of the "Führers..."-SMOGTOWN or GEARS and the MEAN JEANS on Pepp not canned beer, with their in your face "Screw you!"-nihilis as life's central philosophy and that was released in 2009 on vinyl. I myself haven't noticed CHEMICALS for way too long; it's time to praise them without restraint, to see their 1.5 minute punksmasher between middle finger salute and chronic liver infection as hope. And yes, they are the kind of band whose name you should get tattooed under your BLACK FLAG bars, whose slogan "Wanna die drinkin’ peppermint schnapps!" will be endorsed enthusiastically lots of places. Jonny Cat - Headhoncho of the label with the same name - has gathered RED DONS personnel to fire off 12 opinionated and unadorned snotgrenades into the Plastic Punk ranks and to build an album whose shortness and versatility doesn't give you a second to breathe; killer record! Don't frown upon the meager distribution situation: the band will release their second album before the end of the year, tour Europe in April 2013 and will bring a repress of this record."
Great follow up 7" to last years killer LP on Feral Ward. Four tracks of explosive punk rock that is hard to not compare to 'Kings of Punk' thru 'Feel the Darkness' Poison Idea. Straight up hardcore filled with nihilistic anger and dark personal lyrics. This four piece stand on their own and have been laying waste to Portland - Devastating on record and live

While their debut LP provided the blueprint for grunge, and their second album recast the band as one of America’s premier postpunk bands, it’s Over The Edge that best exemplifies the Wipers’ sound. The jagged, effortless guitar lines, the paranoid lyrics and raw-throated vocals and the taut, unified rhythms that define their sound bleed together most clearly on this LP, and it stands as both the best entry point for new fans and the most prevalent favorite of diehards. Remastered from the original tapes by Greg Sage and pressed on audiophile grade vinyl and packaged in a deluxe, tip-on sleeve.

An absolute treasure! I've really been digging this band for the last couple of years since they do the moody punk thing so well without trying to copy the WIPERS (like so many others can't seem to help but do). AUTISTIC YOUTH are a bit faster and snottier than some other Northwest bands, yet they toss an infectious melody into the mix that makes their songs so listenable and memorable. NO HOPE FOR THE KIDS comes to mind as having a similar type of approach. And now this new album seriously steps it up a notch and i can say without hesitation that this is way better than the excellent LANDMINE BEACH LP. IDLE MINDS finds the band perfecting melody but still retaining punk attitude and cool lyrics. There's a bit of an early DAG NASTY sound at times, and at others the catchiness of a band like the OBSERVERS. Excuse me while I flip this over for the third time... (BG) - MAXIMUM ROCK'N'ROLL

PINK VINYL! AVAILABLE APRIL 26!

French rock outfit Irnini Mons approach post-punk in an oblique and candid way. With the intent of contributing to the relevancy of modern guitar-based music, they put their four personas at work since 2021 to craft a mixed, diverse solution of indie, progressive, pop and grungy rock.

Formed with ex-members of the former punk band Decibelles (endorsed by the legendary producer Steve Albini), the four musicians all sing, sometimes in solo, sometimes in polyphony, always in French.

After touring intensely in Europe, including a run with Shellac in 2022 and prestigious festivals (Trans Musicales de Rennes, MENT Ljubljana), the band is releasing its first full length album "Une habitante touchée par une météorite" in collaboration with Dur & Doux / Another Record / HViV (FR) and Taken by Surprise Records (DE).

On MY HELL, the Bakersfield Four blast through 6 tracks of hardcore punk a la NAKED RAYGUN, ARTICLES OF FAITH, BORN AGAINST, etc. After a handful of EPs, an LP on MAGIC BULLET and a few thousand miles worth of touring, it is clear that LOSER LIFE have mastered their Chicago meets DC by way of Bakersfield sound. With lyrics focusing on disconnection and the inability to function properly in a relationship without falling into the realm of self pity, MY HELL is perfect punk music for when the skies are cloudy and gray!!

NIGHT SHIFT, Neighborhood Brats’ first release since 2014 is a return to original form without repeating or compromising the past.
The A side title track is a first-rate NB classic, paying homage to the RUNAWAYS, STOOGES and the SAINTS.
Side B features a collaborative writing effort by vocalist Jenny Angelillo and guitarist George Rager, in an AVENGERS meets RADIO BIRDMAN slammer. Captivated by an NPR story of WWII-era COMFORT WOMEN and echoing the current #metoo movement, Angelillo shouts “I’m not the one,” implicitly stating FUCK THAT SHIT TO SEXISM AND THE PATRIARCHY.

Past and present members of Portland, OR hardcore mainstays such as Remains Of The Day, Hellshock, Warcry, Lebenden Toten, etc. pull a 180 and dish out 10 tracks of icy, ominous post-punk. Since their last release, The Estranged have dialed back the explicit aggression of their early singles a bit, and dialed up the textured, atmospheric, layered sounds of prime '80s deathrock/post-punk. 'The Subliminal Man' was painstakingly, impeccably recorded at Type Foundry Studios in Portland and features eight new ones, a re-recording of 'Statue In A Room' (originally released as a split 7' with Autistic Youth) and a rather stunning cover of The Flys' 1978 classic 'Love And A Molotov Cocktail.'

Popular Music, the new album by Philadelphia new wave act The Guests, because the songs are just so damn pleasant. The band knows this. That’s why they’ve put their politics front and center, making it all almost impossible to ignore. You can hear this in their lyrics, with songs like, “Kicked and Punched, Rounded Up, and Stunned” and “Watching the War” driving home the band’s anti-capitalist, populist platform.
Despite having formed in late 2014, this is The Guests’ first full length release, following two cassettes and a European-pressed record collecting the songs from the tapes. According to guitarist Alki Meimaris, the band, made up of him, Florence Lin on synth, lead singer Christian Vogan, Kyle Seely on drums, and his brother Hart on bass, has always kept the same intentional approach to making music: “The purpose of the band is to make the idea of radical left politics more approachable as a solution to global issues of poverty and inequality, to whoever listens.”
Musically the band sounds similarly to British synth-pop pioneers Heaven 17 or Disintegration-era Cure: think bold, fun synthesizer and guitar lines backed up by very catchy, machine-like drums and bass. This is music that makes you want to dance. But can the music exist apart from the politics? Asked about that, Meimaris said, “We hope that people can enjoy the music independently. But we have the knowledge that the music and the politics can never be pulled completely apart at the end of the day. The music is a sugar pill that helps the medicine of our politics go down.”
While the band’s shared membership with garage rockers Sheer Mag is something that is brought up often – the Seely brothers are in both – the similarity between the two goes well-past their lineups. While their respective genres are pretty dissimilar, both The Guests and Sheer Mag play a classic style of music that is easy to take in and enjoy while also having an incredibly poignant and purposeful political message.
Like everything else the band does, the album’s name is very intentional. According to Meimaris, Popular Music is meant to highlight the “inextricable link” between pop music and populist politics. While there are many examples of that sort of thing in the past – the aforementioned Heaven 17, Gang of Four, The Specials, and The Clash, just to name a few – it’s not something that is as prominent these days, at least not in an overt kind of way.
“Let’s face some simple facts / The right has got no rhythm / And as I get riled up / No hope for them at all” lead singer Vogan sings on “Kicked and Punched, Rounded Up, and Stunned,” about putting your body on the line to bring about revolutionary change, though it’s unclear if he means on the dance floor or out in the streets. Either way, the message is as necessary as the song is clever and fun.
Still, there are people who aren’t going to pay attention or just flat-out ignore what the band is saying. Asked about that, Meimaris told The Key that, “You can’t sing a song you like without knowing the lyrics. You can’t even whistle a song you know the lyrics to without thinking about the lyrics. If people were never going to pay attention, they were never going to. It’s our job to make the music so good that the lyrics seep in eventually. If our message doesn’t get across, that’s on us.”

BLACK VINYL!

The Mandates are a punk/power-pop quartet based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Formed in 2010, Matt Sikkens, Jimmy Sixx, Kirch N. Destroy and their drummer, Tahoe, have dedicated the most ambitious few years of their lives to writing the best '77 pop punk anthems their minds can arrange. Taking cues from classic acts like Teenage Head, Thin Lizzy, New York Dolls and The Jam, The Mandates have forged through their music scene, creating something vintage and yet somehow maintaining a modern appeal. The 12" follow-up to their first single "Take You to the Dance" os boasting their most danceable choruses and inspired lyrics to date. This full length vinyl release, produced by Portland punk rock aficionado Pat Kearns (Exploding Hearts, Nice Boys, Red Dons, Clorox Girls) is a passionate and earnest endeavour.

"Self-confessed purveyors of Hoodlum Rock and Roll, Mother's Children certainly know how to rock and roll, boys and girls, and if you've never heard them then this is your chance. Big and bashful this is pretty close to perfect power pop with melodies to die for and crashing guitars played with reckless abandon. Take the opener of 'Gang Is Back' then follow that rush up with the rapid one-two of 'Out Of The Dark' as it stomps 'n' rolls towards its chorus like the Biters never happened.

'Blue Citron Haze' gets into a fist fight with the Boys as it motors along with studs and bubblegum. 'Break It To Me' settles for a classic riff with guitar breaks poignantly placed as Mother's Children take this bad boy for a ride - not wanting to reinvent the power pop wheel they just jump on and ride the living shit out of it.

Hailing from Canada this four piece nail it song after song after song. Not posturing or trying to be something they're not they prefer to just write blisteringly good songs and rock the shit out of them. Sure 'Helen Mustn't Know' but why not? C'mon guys, let her in, I'm sure she'd love it. It's unashamedly unoriginal and has been done a million times, but on the other hand if it isn't broken don't fix it. This isn't brain surgery folks, this is rock and roll and Mother's Children sure do know how it's done properly.

They get their groove on for the bruising 'Not Fair' then follow it up with the superb 'Talk To Her', its power pop trash and full throttle rock and roll mixing up elements of '70s glam rock with bits of '77 punk and beyond. This middle section of the record is really, really strong songwise - 'Explode' is fantastic and reminds me of Stiv Bators when he tried his hand at this kinda punk powerpop. This record shines as bright as the sun and reeks of good times: Christ, 'Convince Me' is blissful and the acoustic driven 'Identical' is so snotty.

With twelve tracks on offer that harvest all that's good from several decades worth of power pop and punk rock and roll Mother's Children are really onto something here and have set the bar pretty damn high. With a European tour being organised for 2015 I only hope they decide to bring this noise to the UK so we can all get down to some shit kicking, huge grinning rock and roll." - UBER ROCK

In the discography of POISON IDEA, 1993’s We Must Burn is recognized as the capper on the most prolific period for Portland, Oregon’s Kings Of Punk, as well as the final album from their initial thirteen-year run. Well-seasoned and confident in their sonic skin, this album showed the musical progression the band had made while still holding on to the buzzsaw guitars of Tom “Pig Champion” Roberts, the defiant bellow of Jerry A. Lang, and the other elements that positioned them as one of the forerunning units for American Hardcore punk.

COLOR VINYL!

Rikk Agnew wrote, sang and plays every ferocious note on his first solo LP, All By Myself. The vinyl has been out of print since the mid-'80s, then reappeared as bonus tracks on the Adolescents self-titled CD up until 2000. We've always felt this album contained some of his best songs ("O.C. Life," "Falling Out") so here it is, finally reactivated on vinyl.

SONIC AVENUES are just four Montreal kids who started riffing punk tunes in 2006, but since getting swept up in the booming punk epicentre of neighbouring Ottawa, they've been catapulted into the ranks of the best pop-punk acts in Canada! After releasing a few singles, SONIC AVENUES dropped a bomb in late 2009 with their debut LP on Ottawa's infamous GOING GAGA RECORDS. Within a few short months, the record had sold-out twice, including our repress in cooperation with SABOTAGE RECORDS. Two years later, after obliterating eardrums from stages across North America and Europe, they returned home to record a crushing follow-up, Television Youth, this time prestigious Portland-based label DIRTNAP RECORDS will handle the pressing overseas. Featuring more of the over-driven guitars, infectious harmonized melodies and blazing 2-3 minute songs that powered their debut, the AVES have nonetheless pushed the limits into new territories with this latest offering. In short, TELEVISION YOUTH is punkier, poppier, louder and dirtier than anything they've done before. Armed with this devastating new arsenal, as well as ambitious touring plans spanning the (un)civilized world, SONIC AVENUES are sure to keep fists in the air and beers a-flyin' for years to come.

LP by Tommy and the Commies

From swingin’ Sudbury, Ontario, CA (nada), here come TOMMY and the COMMIES with their debut recordings for Slovenly Recordings, "Here come Tommy and the Commies!" “Here Come...” is 16 blistering minutes of hooliganistic mod-punk madness featuring Jeff Houle, also known as the sole brain behind budget rock cult faves STRANGE ATTRACTOR, and his brother Mitch, known â…” collectively as the power-pop force STATUES of P. Trash Records fame.

Swagger drenched youngster frontman Tommy Commy recruited Strange Jeff by dragging him into a bathroom stall during a punk show, playing him an inaudible demo on a phone. The Houle Two agreed to join forces for Tommy’s first foray into the world of record making on the strength of giving “Spiral Scratch” era Howard Devoto a run for his dosh on the vox on any given holiday. This kid has GOT IT, BABY!

In a perfect modern world, songs like “Devices,” and “Suckin’ In Your 20’s” would be massive chart smashes on the level of “Teenage Kicks.” Those days are long gone, but here we are in 2018, giving YOU what you need, and what THEY don’t deserve.

" width="100" height="100" style="float: left; margin: 0px 8px 8px 0px;" />
Unquestionably Portland's most well-loved punk group, THE WIPERS formed in the late 1970s and in 1980 released their debut, "is this real" - 12 songs of stabbing, jittery guitar, snapped vocals, and unabashed teen angst. Full of desperation and yearning, the album has stood as a blueprint for wretched youth for over 30 years. In the early '90s "is this real" was given mainstream attention when NIRVANA covered 2 tracks off the record and Kurt Cobain announced it was one of the primary influences on his group.

Broken into six long songs, Youth Of America is a much colder, harrowing experience than the teen angst of their debut. Vocally Sage comes off as sleep-deprived and forsaken, snarling not only at his own predicament but at the predicament of the entire world. Mastered from the original tapes by SAGE, pressed on high quality vinyl, and packaged in sturdy, old-style heavy-duty jackets.

The Fullerton quartet Audacity could have been just another semi-anonymous pop-punk bunch, if only it had put a little less creativity into the music on its second album.
Instead, the band attacks its rough-hewn but unshakably melodic songs from a variety of angles while always retaining its anarchic spirit throughout the album's too-short 29 minutes.

LP by Bad//Dreems

More than ten years into their career, Bad//Dreems have an energy that most bands rarely manage to attain. Passionate, powerful, and pertinent, HOO HA! Is a sign of what’s to come for the group, and an indication that things will never lessen in intensity. “We’re in this for the long haul, and we don’t ever want to start going through the motions,” Cameron notes. “Nor do we ever want to stop.”

Bad//Dreems were born during an Adelaide heatwave in the summer of 2012. Ben Marwe, Alex Cameron, James Bartold & Miles Wilson began playing together in a whitegoods warehouse on the banks of the River Torrens.

Their first release, the Badlands EP led to attention from triple j and US college radio, seeing them sign to Ivy League/Mushroom. The debut LP Dogs At Bay (2015) and its follow up Gutful (2017), both produced by Mark Opitz, cemented their place as one of the most exciting Australian guitar bands of recent times. Over this period they toured extensively both in Australia and abroad, appearing at Splendour in the Grass, Falls and Laneway festivals and supporting acts such as Midnight Oil, At The Drive In, The Avalanches, Wolf Alice, Scientists and Cold Chisel.

2019 saw the addition of long time live member engineer Ali Wells to the band.

Their 3rd album, ‘Doomsday Ballet’, was recorded in Adelaide with production from Burke Reid (Courtney Barnett, Julia Jacklin, DZ Deathrays) and Jack Ladder. Released in October 2019, it received incredible praise from fans & media, including from KEXP, triple j, DORK Mag, UPSET Mag & many more.

Musically the band play a rough and tumble brand of jangling rock and roll, that draws influence from Antipodean groups of the 70s and 80s, as well as US acts such as Wipers, DEVO and Television. To date the band have explored ideas of Australian dystopia and isolation, suburban ennui and male identity. Their new album deals with the absurdity of the post truth world, via a dark psychedelic vision of the end of days.

It was 2012 that the Australian music scene was first really introduced to Bad//Dreems. Having formed as mates at their local footy club, the group soon hit the studio, releasing music that soon found itself lumbered with anachronistic labels like “outsider rock” or “pub rock”.

In the time since, the band have – to borrow a cliché – gone from strength to strength, releasing a solid debut EP, and three full-length releases produced by Aussie icon Mark Opitz.

While their live shows have been wild, and their records sounding like unreleased albums from the likes of the Celibate Rifles or Radio Birdman, the band’s new release showcases the result of expanded horizons, and sees a band making the music that they wish to make, no longer being burdened by the expectations of outdated labels.

As corny as it sounds, you can’t help but describe Bermuda Squares as a Minneapolis supergroup. Ringleaded by singer/guitarist Tony Milek, the band comprises members of Sinks, Neo Neos, Citric Dummies, Color Tv, green/blue, Retainers, Dummy, the Soviettes, IV, and Awesome Snakes. That pedigree alone provides a good idea of where you’re heading here. Clever pop for dumdums. Well crafted knuckledragging catchy fuzz hammered out meticulously by idiots.

What've I Done? (LUNGS-226) by CRAWL SPACE

Ten short sharp blasts of ultra-frenetic, intense and to-the-point American hardcore punk in the vein of Negative FX, Agnostic Front, The Abused and Deathwish. They sure don’t waste time with any unessentials. What they have done is take a little more time with “My God...” since the previous tapes and 7” to expand on their sound and enrich the overall listening experience. A couple of these triumphant new epics are more than one minute in length so consider this their step up to Long Play maturity. Crawl Space has emerged from the basement and stepped into the daylight ready to stomp your ears out. This MLP is downright nasty.

The Singles Collection LP by Cruelster

So I have a problem: I hate everyone and all music. Well, OK, not everyone. But c’mon - you know what people are like. Honestly, they’re the worst. And fair enough I might not really hate all music, but let’s be honest: have you ever actually heard any music? I mean, jeeez. If I’m gonna listen to a record, I’ll need something that matches this misanthopy; something that really gets the neurotransmitters firing on all cylinders and ready to obliterate the feelgood factor. Something like Cleveland band Cruelster, basically.

Cruelster are made up of members of Knowso, Perverts Again, and a plethora of other Ohio noiseniks. If it seems like you’ve seen that name before, it’s highly probable - they released a demo back in 2012 and have been sporadically dropping bundles of rough-edged sonic snot ever since, thanks to labels like Lumpy (whose own Dumpers are at the very least sonically adjacent) and Turbine Piss. This singles collection compiles all the non-album tracks they’ve released since that early demo to make a thrillingly ‘orrible racket. Twelve years’ worth of punk rottenness and general stupidity contained in 29 tracks and 40 noisy minutes. It is, of course, fucking brilliant.

From the gleefully melodic dumbness (and Booji Boy-flavoured additions) of ‘My Embarrassment’ to the malevolent rumble of ‘Double Trouble’, not to mention a fabulously energised cover of Icona Pop’s dance-pop smash ‘I Love It’, every track here is a winner. It’s the perfect tonic for your rage and the perfect foil to a cruel world where everyone else’s disdain seems more pronounced than your own. You owe it to yourself to complete your record shelves with this instantly classic comp - it’s punk rock par excellence. And as for that ‘hating all music thing’... ah, who cares, this is all gold. Listen immediately, you’ll be causing chaos to its raucous brilliance before you know it.

The album was the group's first since reforming with Dave Vanian on vocals, Captain Sensible on lead guitar, Rat Scabies on drums and Algy Ward on bass guitar.

Machine Gun Etiquette saw the band become more experimental; without Brian James, the songwriting was more democratic, resulting in a blend of punk, psychedelic rock and pop styles.

Greg Graffin, Bad Religion

While some critcs at the time dismissed this album as "unmusical", in retrospect, it is viewed both a classic of the era and the peak of Discharge's career. The album is characterized by a minimalistic approach of music and lyrics, a heavy, distorted, and grinding guitar-driven sound and raw, shouted vocals similar to a political speech, with lyrics on anarchist and pacifist themes. The album is considered highly important in the evolution of extreme forms of metal and punk music, paving the way for genres such as thrash metal, black metal, crust punk and grindcore.

It's 1981, the cold war rages, threatening to turn hot at any moment as Reagan, Thatcher and Brezhnev seem poised to destroy the world in a descent to nuclear madness. Using cover art appropriated from 1930's anti fascist agit-prop Discharge links the bleak reality of Thatcher's Britain with the descent to totalitarian oppression and war of an earlier generation. A bit more polished than the first three EPs and the Why? 12", Never Again delivers three blasts of hardcore punk

From their beginnings as teenagers jamming in a San Fernando Valley garage dubbed "The Hell Hole" to headlining major music festivals around the world, Do What You Want tells the whole story in irreverent style.

While Do What You Want tracks down nearly all of Bad Religion's members past and present, the chief storytellers are the four voices that define Bad Religion: Greg Graffin, a Wisconsin kid who sang in the choir and became an L.A. punk rock icon while he was still a teenager; Brett Gurewitz, a high school dropout who founded the independent punk label Epitaph Records and went on to become a record mogul; Jay Bentley, a surfer and skater who gained recognition as much for his bass skills as for his onstage antics; and Brian Baker, a founding member of Minor Threat who joined the band in 1994 and brings a fresh perspective as an intimate outsider.

With a unique blend of melodic hardcore and thought-provoking lyrics, Bad Religion paved the way for the punk rock explosion of the 1990s, opening the door for bands like NOFX, The Offspring, Rancid, Green Day, and Blink-182 to reach wider audiences. They showed the world what punk could be, and they continue to spread their message one song, one show, one tour at a time -- with no signs of stopping.

Bad Religion formed in Los Angeles in 1980, and ranks among the most influential American punk rock bands of all time. They have released 17 albums that have sold over five million copies, and they continue to sell out venues all over the world.

Jim Ruland has been writing for punk rock zines like Flipside since the early '90s and has written for every issue of Razorcake, America's only non-profit independent music fanzine. He is the co-author of My Damage with Keith Morris, the founding vocalist of Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and OFF!

Drakulas present Raw Wave. Raw Wave is a collection of songs told from the different points of view of various characters in a fictional metropolis in our not too distant past. A bustling city center not unlike Times Square in the 70's filled with sin and sex is the backdrop where gangs, street preachers, sex addicts, pimps, prostitutes and pornographers live and work. People of this world describe the time period of these songs as the Raw Wave. A wave of new analog technology that hit the city wiping away many of the mores and pretense of the past.

Drakulas are from Austin, TX and feature members of Riverboat Gamblers and Rise Against, among others. This is their debut LP, following a 7” on Red Scare. This pretty much nails the sound the Texas branch of the extended Dirtnap family is infamous for. Vibrant, high energy, and dangerously catchy, Raw Wave is tailor-made for fans of The Marked Men, The Dickies, and vintage-era Riverboat Gamblers/High Tension Wires, with a killer recording by Mark Ryan and Jeff Burke at Cool Devices Studio in Ft. Worth, TX. And then there’s the lyrics, high-concept/low-brow weirdness that could only have come from the twisted mind of Gamblers frontman Mike Wiebe. Call it a super-group if you must, but don’t call it a side-project.

Glue didn’t really have to get better, but they have. With barely 25 minutes of recorded music to their name—spread across a demo, an EP and a tour tape—our appetite for the band’s distinctive take on hardcore had hardly been sated. However, their latest foray ups the ante in all respects, not only pushing against the edges of their sound in the ways you might expect when a band releases its first 12” record, but also by taking the things they already did well even further. Listening to Glue has always felt like you’re standing next to a ticking time bomb, but something about this latest recording with its noisy, everything-in-the-red mix makes the band sound even more explosive, and I pity the soul who tries to sit still while this thing is on the turntable. However, once you get past the immediate, visceral thrill that this record inspires, you’ll be able to appreciate how Glue are expanding upon the primal beats and weirdly circular, almost psychedelic take on hardcore riffing that has made them stick out from the pack since the beginning. “Flowers of Friendship,” with its bright, major key main riff, smashes together Glue’s savage hardcore with a traditional oi! vibe to interesting results, and the closing track is built around a hard-driving rock riff that sounds like it was lifted straight off of an old Judas Priest record. Glue don’t leave hardcore behind with this record, but they don’t let it limit them either, proving that this 35-year-old framework still has the capacity to inspire music as relevant and as exciting as anything the genre has produced so far.

HAMMERHEAD from Germany are back, orginally founded in the later 80s in the city Bad Honnef and on some kind of hiatus for several years, this Hardcorepunk band releases a brand new 7" EP in the year 2016. Nothing has changed, listening to the new HAMMERHEAD material brings you back to the good old and fucked up 90s, on this EP you can find seven songs of pissed off and highly antisocial hardcorepunk this band got famous for. HAMMERHEAD is a brutal punch into your face, their sound is perfect for a life full of alcohol and drugs that ends in endless misery and pain.

As a child my mother told me not to play with incendiaries but I just loved the way things looked as they exploded and burned. All that searing heat and crackling destruction made me thirst for more, for bigger, for total annihilation. That is how KLONNS feels too. "Crow" is four chunks of aural dynamite come together to form an EP chock full of explosive Japanese HC in the vein of the greats like BASTARD, LIP CREAM or DEATH SIDE. Listen loudly and dance until it's only ashes left...

Pioneering LA punk band Legal Weapon was formed in 1980 from the ashes of the Silencers, which Steve Reiner formed with guitarist Brian Hansen and vocalist Kat Arthur. By the time of this riveting 1982 debut LP, the band had Arthur, Hansen, future Adolescents/Agent Orange bassist Steve Soto, and drummer Charlie Vartanian. Just as Exene Cervenka was a primary draw in X and Penelope Houston in the Avengers, Kat Arthur is the major lure that kept this band outstanding, as Hansen and Soto vary the musical action, keeping their hardcore on the melodic side throughout. Essential listening for west coast punk fans!

This was first released in 1981 and quickly became an overnight sensation. Not only did M.D.C. deliver a record full of fast intense music , but this record would influence 1000’s of hardcore/punk and bands of political nature to this day. The corruption of cops! Greed of corporations! Racism! The fact that not all people were the same , but so what that’s OK! Are all addressed in this groundbreaking LP. Many of these issues were quit taboo at the time and had not been addressed to this degree in punk before. Round it all off with this being fully restored and re mastered with the original mix. You have a definite must have album!
